What will our judges be looking for when considering our Drive Car of the Year award winners? Take a look at the judging criteria.
Under the bonnet
Is the engine size and performance appropriate for the type of vehicle and its intended function? How does it perform, both in acceleration and in every day driving? Are there any significant advances in drivetrain (engine, gearbox and driveline) technology? Is it refined? Is fuel efficiency - based on official government-supplied (ADR81) figures and past Drive road tests, comparisons and reviews - acceptable for the type of vehicle? Are exhaust emissions competitive in the current environment and adequately address environmental concerns? With what emissions regulations - such as Euro IV - does the engine comply?
How it drives
Exploring every facet of the driving experience - keep in mind the vehicle's intended function and, to a lesser extent, how that vehicle is marketed. This criterion includes: ride quality (comfort versus handling); steering accuracy, weighting, consistency and feel; stability and ability; driving position adjustability, comfort and stability; noise, vibration and harshness (NVH); passenger comfort.
Price, quality, and equipment
Does the vehicle offer good performance and equipment value for money? What features are offered as standard? Are features on the options list reasonably priced? This area also takes into consideration projected three-year resale values and running costs. And how does the vehicle's build quality and interior fit and finish stack up against the price tag?
Comfort and practicality
How well is the vehicle's interior packaged? Consider durability, versatility, practicality. What innovations does it introduce? Is seating comfort - head, shoulder and leg room - offered in all legitimate seating positions? Does is have a big boot and can the seats be easily folded? Are instruments and controls functional, intuitive and ergonomically friendly?
Safety
Star ratings from Euro New Car Assessment Program (Euro NCAP) and Australian NCAP should be taken into account where available to judge a vehicle's crashworthiness, but every vehicle can be checked for what safety features are offered as standard, both active (such as electronic stability control, ABS) and passive (such as airbags, collapsible steering columns). Price and availability of optional safety equipment should be considered.
Никъде не пише "надеждност". Абе това "Car of the Year" по принцип е толкова измислена класация, че изобщо няма смисъл да я набъркваме в класациите за надеждност.
